Trendy clothing retailer Zumiez is moving its corporate office to Lynnwood. This comes from our news partners at the Seattle Times:

Zumiez announced plans to move its headquarters about 13 miles south from Everett to Lynnwood, where it paid $3.3 million for eight acres off Interstate 5 near Alderwood mall.

Zumiez is working with an architect and developer to build a new two-story, 50,000-square-foot headquarters for its 135 administrative employees, plus any additional hires, Chief Financial Officer Trevor Lang said.

Move-in is set for spring 2012. The company will keep its leased offices in Everett to fill a growing number of Internet orders, Lang said. Zumiez has occupied an office building off Merrill Creek Parkway in Everett since 2005.

“We’ve outgrown this building and need more room,” Lang said. “Also, we wanted to be closer to Seattle for talent reasons. There’s a larger talent base in the Seattle area, so as we grow and add positions, it’s better to be closer.”

The first Zumiez opened in 1978 with a single store at Northgate Mall, which was called “Above the Belt” at the time. Now they have more than 400 stores across the country, including one at Alderwood Mall.
